Punjab Kings kicked off TATA IPL 2024 with a thrilling four-wicket victory between PBKS vs DC in Match 2 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. In this PBKS vs DC clash, Sam Curran (63 off 47) and Liam Livingstone (38* off 21) played pivotal roles, leading Punjab Kings to a successful chase of 175 runs. Their performance followed a collective bowling effort that had limited Delhi Capitals to 174/9.
During the PBKS vs DC encounter, Punjab Kings made a strong start in their chase but faced early setbacks as they lost openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow within the Powerplay. Dhawan and Bairstow put up 34 runs in the first three overs, with four boundaries off Khaleel Ahmed’s opening over. However, Ishant Sharma struck, dismissing Dhawan and then contributing to another crucial wicket by running out Bairstow.
The turning point in the innings came when Sharma’s fingertips deflected a straight drive from Prabhsimran Singh, leading to Bairstow being found short of the crease upon review. Despite the early losses, Punjab Kings managed to secure the win, showcasing their resilience in the PBKS vs DC match.
In the PBKS vs DC match, Impact Player Prabhsimran Singh struck a couple of fours in the next over, lifting Punjab Kings to 53/2. However, Delhi Capitals suffered a setback in the final over of the Powerplay when Ishant Sharma had to leave the field due to a leg injury sustained while fielding. Despite this, DC kept things tight, and Kuldeep Yadav capitalized by dismissing Prabhsimran Singh, who was caught at long-on. Yadav continued his strong performance by having Jitesh Sharma stumped with quick work from Rishabh Pant.
Kuldeep Yadav could have added another wicket in his final over, but Tristan Stubbs dropped Sam Curran at long on when he was on 34. In the PBKS vs DC clash, Curran and Liam Livingstone accelerated the chase with 63 runs still required off 36 balls. They attacked Mitchell Marsh, hitting two fours and a six to score 18 runs in the 15th over. Curran reached his fifty off 39 balls, and the pair’s aggressive play put Punjab Kings in a commanding position.
As the match approached its climax, Curran scored 64 (47) before being dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed in the penultimate over. Khaleel, who had a productive over, took two wickets in two balls, also dismissing Shashank Singh, who was caught behind off a bouncer. Khaleel could have claimed a third wicket but was thwarted when David Warner dropped Harpreet Brar at long-on off the last ball of the over. The PBKS vs DC encounter showcased intense competition and critical moments that shaped the game.
With 6 runs needed off 6 balls in the PBKS vs DC match, Sumit Kumar began with a couple of wides. After a dot ball, Liam Livingstone sealed the victory for the home side with a massive six over deep mid-wicket, securing the win for Punjab Kings.
Earlier in the PBKS vs DC clash, Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and chose to field. It was a memorable occasion for Rishabh Pant, who was making his return to competitive cricket after a severe road accident on December 30, 2022.
Delhi Capitals started aggressively but lost Mitchell Marsh early in their innings. Warner and Marsh showcased powerful strokeplay, hitting three fours and three sixes in a 39-run stand before Arshdeep Singh dismissed Marsh after a six earlier in the fourth over. Warner continued to attack, leading DC to 54/1 at the end of the Powerplay with a superb four and a scooped six off Kagiso Rabada. Despite a 35-run partnership between Warner and Shai Hope, Harshal Patel provided a crucial breakthrough by having Warner caught behind off a bouncer after a successful review.
Rishabh Pant made a dramatic entrance to the crease in the PBKS vs. DC match, receiving a standing ovation and rapturous applause from the crowd. While Shai Hope continued to keep the scoreboard moving, his promising partnership was interrupted when Kagiso Rabada dismissed him for 33 off 25 balls in the 11th over.
This dismissal triggered a collapse for the Delhi Capitals. Two overs later, Harshal Patel struck again, having Pant (18 off 13) caught at backward point. In the next over, Harpreet Brar took another key wicket, getting Ricky Bhui caught behind after a successful review. By the 14th over, DC had lost half their side. Tristan Stubbs also fell quickly, caught brilliantly at wide long off by Shashank Singh off Rahul Chahar. Delhi Capitals went from a stable 94/2 to a precarious 128/6 in just five overs, with wickets falling rapidly. Axar Patel, who had been looking solid with a 12-ball 20, was run out in the 18th over.
DC then brought Abhishek Porel as their Impact Player, replacing Ricky Bhui. Porel made a vital contribution with a blistering 10-ball 32*, hitting four boundaries and two sixes in the final over to boost DC to 174/9. In the PBKS vs DC match, Punjab Kings introduced Prabhsimran Singh as their Impact Player during the last over of the first innings.
