The Gujarat Titans (GT) are a professional cricket team from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Founded in 2021, they play home games at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. The team is owned by CVC Capital Partners. Shubman Gill is the captain, following a trade that sent Hardik Pandya back to Mumbai Indians, his former team. The Titans are coached by Ashish Nehra. Impressively, they won their first IPL title in 2022, which was also their debut season, under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.
In August 2021, the Indian Premier League’s Governing Council invited tenders for two new teams. While 22 companies showed interest, only six serious bids emerged due to the high base price for the new franchises. The Board of Control for Cricket in India permitted consortiums of up to three entities to place bids for each team. By October 2021, CVC Capital Partners secured the Ahmedabad franchise with a winning bid of ₹5,625 crore (approximately US$670 million).
Before the IPL 2022 auctions, the franchise named Hardik Pandya its captain; in February 2022, the team was officially branded the Gujarat Titans.
Despite a lackluster auction strategy and weak early selections, the Gujarat Titans’ performances in their debut IPL season surprised everyone. They secured their first win against fellow newcomers Lucknow Super Giants. They dominated the league, winning 10 of their 14 group matches and topping the table with 20 points. The Titans continued their strong run by winning the first qualifier against Rajasthan Royals and then beating Royal Challengers Bangalore to reach the final.
In the final, Gujarat Titans restricted Rajasthan Royals to 130 runs and chased the target with 11 balls to spare. Shubman Gill hit the winning six off the first ball of the 19th over, while Hardik Pandya, who scored 34 from 30 balls and took 3/17 with the ball, was named Man of the Match. Pandya’s leadership and performance received widespread praise, with critics highlighting his effective use of players and overall team strategy. This victory made Gujarat the second team to win the IPL in their inaugural season.
The Gujarat Titans (GT) livery is designed to showcase the team’s strength and pride. The primary color is deep navy blue, symbolizing power, with bright gold accents representing success. The jersey features modern geometric patterns inspired by Gujarat’s culture, giving it a unique look. The team logo, featuring a solid titan figure, is displayed on the chest, highlighting the team’s resilience. Overall, the livery blends tradition and modernity, reflecting the spirit of Gujarat and the team’s identity.

The Gujarat Titans (GT), a relatively new team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have developed a rivalry with the Rajasthan Royals (RR). This rivalry intensified during the IPL 2022 season when GT defeated RR in both the league stage and the final, securing their first-ever IPL title. Matches between these teams are highly competitive, with fans eagerly anticipating each encounter. Their rivalry is characterized by close contests and high stakes, making it one of the more exciting matchups in recent IPL seasons.
As of August 2024, the Gujarat Titans are in eighth place in the IPL 2024 standings. They have faced challenges this season, with a record of 5 wins, 7 losses, and 2 no-results, giving them 12 points. Despite a recent victory against the Chennai Super Kings, where they posted a formidable total of 231/3, their overall performance needs to be more robust to place them in the top tier. Kolkata Knight Riders lead the standings, with Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the top three.
