The Brisbane Heat are a professional cricket team from Australia, with both men’s and women’s teams competing in the Big Bash League (BBL), Australia’s top Twenty20 competition. They succeeded the Queensland Bulls, who played in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The team is known for their teal uniforms and is based in Brisbane, Queensland, with their home ground at The Gabba (Brisbane Cricket Ground).
Darren Lehmann was the team’s first coach, and Wade Seccombe is the current head coach, with Lehmann now serving as his assistant. The team’s first captain was Peter Forrest, an Australian ODI batter. Notable players like Usman Khawaja, Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro, and Daniel Vettori have also captained the Heat. In their second season (BBL02), the Brisbane Heat won their first Big Bash League title, earning them a spot in the Champions League Twenty20.
After starting the season with four consecutive losses, the Brisbane Heat made a strong comeback by winning their final three matches. Despite this late surge, they ended the season in 5th place, just missing out on semi-final qualification.
James Hopes, who was expected to captain the team, was sidelined for the entire tournament due to injury, leaving Peter Forrest to lead in his stead. Additionally, Brendon McCullum missed several games as he was simultaneously playing in the HRV Cup in New Zealand, while Daniel Vettori also missed a few matches due to injury.

Morné Morkel also joined the Heat as a local player after becoming a permanent resident of Australia. They brought in overseas players Lewis Gregory and Dan Lawrence. Among the local signings was James Bazley, who returned to the Heat with a full contract after six seasons away.
The team saw some departures as well: Ben Cutting, Matt Renshaw, James Pattinson, Josh Lalor, and Jack Prestwidge left the club. Tom Banton exited due to bio-bubble fatigue and was replaced by Joe Denly.
