‘Rishabh Pant Will Definitely Be…’: Delhi Capitals Co-owner Provides Key Information on Player Retentions

The BCCI has announced the eagerly anticipated retention guidelines ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Franchises are required to submit their lists of retained players by October 31. Meanwhile, fans are busy speculating about which players their favorite teams will keep.

In an exciting development, Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal stirred up conversation by confirming to the media that star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will be retained for the IPL 2025 season. This follows Pant’s impressive return to competitive cricket earlier this year.

“Yes, we definitely have to retain. We have some very good players in our team. The rules have just come out, so after discussing with GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made. Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained,” Jindal said, as heard in the video shared by IANS on X.

“We also have Axar Patel, who is excellent, Triston Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar,  and Khaleel Ahmed, all very good players in our team. We’ll see what happens in the auction. But first, as per the rule, we can retain six players. After discussions, we will proceed with the auction and see what happens,” he added.

The IPL Governing Council has announced that teams can now retain up to six players for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. This includes a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped players, which can be done through retention or the Right to Match (RTM) option.

The auction purse for IPL 2025 is set at INR 120 crore, with the total salary cap rising to INR 146 crore. A significant change this season is the introduction of a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per player, marking the first time such a fee has been implemented in IPL history.

Additionally, overseas players are required to register for the auction, and there will be penalties for those who withdraw after being selected. Indian players who haven’t participated in international cricket for the past five years can be classified as uncapped. The Impact Player rule will also continue to be in effect for the upcoming cycle.

‘May Not Retain Mohammed Shami’: Former India Cricketer Explains Why Gujarat Titans Could Release Star Pacer Ahead of IPL Mega Auction

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has made a bold prediction regarding Mohammad Shami’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami has been out of competitive cricket since the ODI World Cup final last year due to an ankle injury, which required surgery in February. Despite his challenges, the senior pacer is optimistic about regaining fitness in time for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, set to begin in the third week of November.

Chopra has expressed concerns that Shami’s ongoing injury issues could significantly impact his IPL career. Last season, the speedster was in remarkable form, taking 28 wickets for the Gujarat Titans and earning the purple cap for his outstanding performance. However, his extended absence from the game raises questions about his ability to perform at the same level once he returns.

As the IPL mega auction approaches, the Gujarat Titans have yet to confirm which players they will retain. Shami’s potential retention remains uncertain, and fans will be keen to see if he can regain his form and fitness in time to compete effectively in the tournament.

Under the new rules, each team in the IPL is allowed to retain a maximum of six players, utilizing options for retention and the Right to Match (RTM). This change is part of the ongoing adjustments as franchises prepare for the upcoming mega auction.

Aakash Chopra Highlights Retention Strategy for Gujarat Titans

Aakash Chopra has suggested that the Gujarat Titans may be hesitant to retain Mohammad Shami, given his recent fitness history. Shami’s extended absence from competitive cricket due to injury could influence the franchise’s decision-making process regarding player retention.

Chopra believes that the Titans should prioritize retaining key players like Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, and Sai Sudharsan. These players have proven their value on the field and could play a crucial role in the team’s success in the upcoming season.

“One will be a very straightforward retention that you have to keep Shubman Gill. The second is a no-brainer, that’s Rashid Khan. You should retain him as well. I feel Sai Sudharsan is the third player they should retain. If Sai Sudharsan goes to the market, he will take 8 to 10 crores for sure, and you will be able to retain him for 11 crores,” Aakash Chopra said while discussing the topic on his YouTube channel.

Aakash Chopra believes that the Gujarat Titans may be reluctant to pay a significant amount to retain Mohammad Shami, particularly considering his age. At 34 years old, Shami’s experience may be valuable, but his age could be a factor in the team’s decision-making regarding player retention.

Chopra suggests that the Titans might opt to release the senior pacer ahead of the mega auction, allowing them to potentially sign him again at a lower price, estimated between Rs 6-8 crore. This strategy could enable the franchise to manage their budget more effectively while still retaining Shami’s experience in the squad if they choose to pursue him again.

Injury Concerns Surround Shami as He Aims for a Comeback

“They don’t have any other player who is worth 18 crores, who will be sold for 18 crores if you release them, whether it’s Kane Williamson, Mohammed Shami, David Miller, or any other name. I think this team may not retain Shami because of injury concerns,” Chopra explained.

Recently, Mohammad Shami addressed and denied reports suggesting that he might miss the upcoming tour of Australia. His statement comes as he focuses on regaining fitness and preparing for competitive cricket after his ankle injury. Shami’s commitment to being part of the tour indicates his determination to return to the field and contribute to the team.

It was reported that Shami had sustained a knee injury that might delay his return. The Indian cricketer rubbished those claims and called them “baseless rumours” in a social media post.

“I’m working hard and trying my level best to recover. Neither the BCCI nor I have mentioned that I am out of the Border Gavaskar series. I request the public to stop paying attention to such news from unofficial sources. Please stop and don’t spread such fake fake fake & fake news, especially without my statement,” Mohammad Shami had shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Mohammad Shami has been called up to represent Bengal in the upcoming Ranji Trophy, which is set to begin on October 11. This domestic red-ball competition will provide him with an opportunity to regain match fitness and sharpen his skills ahead of the international fixtures. Shami aims to make a significant impact in the tournament as he works towards a full return to competitive cricket.
