LSG Likely To Retain KL Rahul Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction – Report

The Lucknow Super Giants are expected to retain captain KL Rahul ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. According to a report from Cricbuzz on August 26, Rahul, who was signed by the franchise for ₹17 crore before the IPL 2022 mega auction, met with LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka at the team’s Kolkata office on Monday.

The one-hour meeting focused on the team’s composition for the upcoming season and the possibility of Rahul’s retention. While there’s no guarantee that LSG will keep Rahul, his meeting with the owner suggests that they are considering it.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced the retention rules for the new season, so any decisions on player retention will likely come after these guidelines are released. Rahul has captained LSG for the past three IPL editions, but there were rumors about him leaving the team after a heated discussion with Goenka following the team’s 10-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024.

Recently, Rahul played for India in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is set to participate in the Duleep Trophy 2024, which begins on September 5.

Rahul’s IPL career

KL Rahul made his IPL debut in 2013 with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and later played two seasons (2014–2015) with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was signed by the Punjab Kings during the IPL 2018 mega auction and captained the team in the 2020 and 2021 seasons of the world’s richest cricket league. The right-handed batter from Bengaluru is the all-time leading run-scorer in IPL history for both the Punjab Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants.

Yuvraj Singh To Join Delhi Capitals Coaching Staff For IPL 2025 – Reports

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh may make his coaching debut in the upcoming 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to a report from Sportstar, the Delhi Capitals have begun discussions with the legendary cricketer about a potential coaching role.

After missing the playoffs for three consecutive seasons, the Delhi Capitals parted ways with Ricky Ponting last month. The former Australian captain had been with the franchise for seven seasons but was unable to secure a title. Following his departure, Ponting suggested that the team is looking for a former Indian cricketer to take over as head coach.

Yuvraj, a key player in India’s victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, retired from international cricket in 2019 after winning the IPL title with the Mumbai Indians. Throughout his 12-year IPL career, he played for several teams, including the Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab), Pune Warriors India, Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and MI.

Yuvraj Singh’s Coaching Prospects: A Potential Move Amidst Changing Coaching Dynamics

Last month, it was reported that Yuvraj Singh was being considered to replace Ashish Nehra as the coach of the Gujarat Titans. However, recent updates indicate that Nehra is likely to remain as head coach, and the 2022 IPL champions are exploring other former Indian cricketers to fill the role left by Gary Kirsten, who has taken on the head coach position for Pakistan’s white-ball team.

Yuvraj does not have any prior coaching experience in the IPL or domestic cricket, but he has acted as a mentor to Indian players like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, both of whom have made significant strides in their careers.

While a final decision on Yuvraj’s potential move to the Delhi Capitals is still pending, developments in the coming months will be closely watched. Additionally, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, currently the Director of Cricket at the Delhi Capitals, has expressed his ambition to become the new head coach of the franchise and is eager to lead the team to an IPL title.
