IPL 2025: BCCI To Allow 5 Retentions Ahead Of Mega Auction – Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce new retention rules for IPL teams ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Reports suggest that teams may be allowed to retain five players and have one Right to Match (RTM) option.

The IPL Governing Council is scheduled to meet today, September 28, at 6:30 PM at the newly opened NCA center in Bengaluru. Although a formal decision may take up to 24 hours, an announcement could be made within hours of the meeting.

Notably, this meeting was arranged on short notice, with members only informed the previous evening. While an official statement could follow today’s meeting, there is speculation that the significant retention policy may first be discussed with the general body on Sunday before being made public.

The IPL Governing Council is also set to finalize the number of player retentions and decide on the date and venue for the upcoming mega auction. Currently, the auction is tentatively planned for the end of November, with a Gulf city likely to host it. There has been interest from Saudi Arabia, and if approved, Riyadh could serve as the venue.

There is significant speculation surrounding the retention rules, with predictions suggesting anywhere from 2 to 8 players could be retained. However, the BCCI is likely to find a middle ground, possibly allowing teams to retain between 5 and 6 players, including one Right to Match (RTM) option.

In late July, the BCCI held a meeting with IPL team owners to discuss various league-related matters, including retention policies, and to gather feedback from the franchises.

‘To All CSK Fans…’: Dwayne Bravo’s Special Message As He Joins KKR As Mentor Ahead Of IPL 2025

Dwayne Bravo joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2011 and retired from the franchise in 2022. He returned to CSK in 2023 as the bowling coach. Recently, Bravo expressed his gratitude to the CSK management for their support during his coaching tenure. He has now joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as the franchise’s new mentor, succeeding Gautam Gambhir, ahead of the IPL 2025 season.

Bravo, who will turn 41 next month, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket a day before the KKR announcement due to a groin injury he sustained during the Caribbean Premier League. He had previously retired from international cricket in 2021 and concluded his IPL career last year. In the past year, Bravo has shifted his focus to coaching, working with both CSK and the Afghanistan national team.

Speaking in a video by CSK’s official X handle, Bravo said, “Vanakkam, this is a champion. It is not a secret now that the news is out that I have accepted the deal to be the mentor of the Knight Riders franchise. Just want to take this time to give a special mention and a special thank you to the CSK management team for giving me their blessings to move on to do something that I am really passionate about,” Bravo said.

“My fans in Chennai and to all the CSK fans around the world, I call on you to give me your blessings and support as you always do. I know this is a sad moment for you guys, but it is one that I encourage you to continue to support me in everything that I do. Lot’s of love, yellove, all the time. See you guys soon. See you on the other side,” he added.

Bravo is enthusiastic for the new chapter that is going to unfold in his life and said, “I’ve been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the last 10 years in the CPL. Having played for and against the Knight Riders in various leagues, I have a lot of respect for how they operate. This is the perfect platform for me as I transition from playing to mentoring and coaching the next generation of players.”
