‘He Won’t Allow’: Aakash Chopra Feels Shah Rukh Khan Will Retain Shreyas Iyer At First In IPL 2025 Auction

According to the new rules, each team can retain a maximum of six players through Retentions and Right to Match (RTM) options. Former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra believes that Shreyas Iyer will be the first player retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Under Shreyas’s leadership, KKR won the IPL 2024 title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final match. Chopra also mentioned that KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan is unlikely to let go of Shreyas Iyer and plans to keep him on the team.

“You want to firstly retain the captain, who is Shreyas Iyer. If 18 crores go, let them go because you won’t get a captain. He is your winning captain. If Gautam (Gambhir) isn’t there, retain your captain to maintain some continuity. There is no doubt that you should retain Shreyas Iyer,” he said on YouTube.

“You might get Shreyas Iyer for 18 crores using the RTM but never do that with the captain because eventually this game is played by humans, and humans have hearts, and thereby emotions. Who will understand emotions better than Khan sahab (Shahrukh Khan)? So I feel he won’t allow Shreyas Iyer to go,” the former India opener added.

“Second – since I am looking from the Indian perspective, if Rinku Singh comes to the market, he will be sold for 14 crores. So retain Rinku Singh for sure. Retain both Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. The problem is that if you retain both, one will be for 11 crores but the fourth retention will be for 18 crores. I would say it is still worth it,” he said.

The IPL Governing Council recently announced new rules ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Each team can now retain a maximum of six players through Retentions and Right to Match (RTM) options.

‘He Was The Only Guy’: Sandeep Sharma Lauds Sanju Samson For Giving Him Another Chance In The IPL

Sandeep Sharma continued his impressive performance with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), taking 43 wickets in 48 matches. Recently, the Indian pacer shared how Sanju Samson played a pivotal role in reviving his IPL career. Speaking on a podcast with former cricketer Taruwar Kohli, Sandeep revealed that after going unsold in the IPL 2023 auction, it was Samson who gave him another opportunity to prove himself.

“I got a call from Sanju (Samson), he talked to me. He told me a lot of positive things. He explained how me going unsold also made him feel bad personally. He believed in me and told me that I would get a chance that season (IPL 2023). He told me how there were injury problems in every team and even in RR. He told me that in that season I would play IPL and will do well,” Sandeep said.

“He was the only guy who made me feel positive during that time, which actually helped me a lot. He was the only one who talked in the present. He then called me to the RR camp, and then I got in because Prasidh, unfortunately, got injured. Since then, I have been playing every game as my last and enjoy it all,” Sandeep added.

Sandeep Sharma began his career with the Punjab Kings from 2013 to 2018, where he took 71 wickets in 56 matches. He then showcased his skills with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), picking up 43 wickets in 48 matches. Since joining the Rajasthan Royals in 2023, Sandeep has emerged as one of their key bowlers, claiming 23 wickets in 22 matches during the 2023 and 2024 IPL seasons.

The Rajasthan Royals made history by winning the inaugural IPL title under the legendary Shane Warne, but they have not secured the trophy since. With former India player Rahul Dravid now appointed as head coach, it will be interesting to see how he leads the team in their quest to reclaim the title in the upcoming season.
