Legendary West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from professional cricket on Thursday, September 26. The 40-year-old cricketer took to Instagram to confirm the end of his more than 20-year career. Bravo, who retired from international cricket in 2021, holds the record as the all-time highest wicket-taker in T20 matches.
Shortly after his retirement announcement, Bravo was appointed as the new mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2025. He replaces Gautam Gambhir, who stepped down from the mentor role in July to become the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.
After becoming the mentor for the 2024 IPL champions, Bravo, who finished his IPL career with 181 wickets, shared a heartfelt message for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans and the team management on Instagram on Friday, September 27.
In a video that has quickly gone viral, Bravo, who played for CSK from 2011 to 2021 and won three titles with the team, expressed his gratitude to the CSK management for supporting his transition to this new role. He also asked fans to extend their blessings and support as he embarks on this new chapter.
“This is the champion. It’s no secret now; the news is out that I have accepted a deal to be the mentor for the Knight Riders franchise. I just want to take this time to give a special mention and a special thank you to the CSK management team for giving me their blessings to move on to do something that I’m really passionate about. My fans in Chennai and to all the CSK fans around the world, I call on you to give me your blessings and support as you always do. I know this is a sad moment for you guys, but it’s one that I encourage you to continue to support me in everything that I do. Lots of love, yellove, all the time. See you guys soon. See you on the other side.”
After retiring from his IPL career, Bravo joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a bowling coach in 2022, a position he held for three seasons.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the retention rules for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) edition on Saturday, September 28. According to a report from Cricbuzz, the IPL Governing Council will meet in Bengaluru, and the announcement is anticipated within the next 24 hours.
The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 AM at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru. While there is no official confirmation on the number of player retentions allowed per team, speculation suggests it could range from 2 to 8 players, with a likely consensus around 5 to 6, including the Right to Match (RTM) option.
In addition to determining retention numbers, the Governing Council is also expected to decide on the date and venue for the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Reports indicate that the auction may be held in a Gulf city at the end of November, with Saudi Arabia expressing interest in hosting it, potentially in Riyadh. For reference, the 2024 IPL auction took place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19, 2024.

Former Indian men’s cricket team captain MS Dhoni, who retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, participated in the 2024 edition of the IPL. However, he did not captain the Chennai Super Kings, passing the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who unfortunately could not lead the team to the playoffs in his first season as captain.
Since the conclusion of IPL 2024, there has been uncertainty surrounding Dhoni’s availability for the upcoming season. Fans are eager to see if the five-time IPL champion will return to play in the world’s richest franchise cricket league.
Additionally, doubts also linger over Rohit Sharma’s future in the IPL. The Indian captain has been with the Mumbai Indians since IPL 2011, and it remains to be seen if he will be retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
