Rishabh Pant is expected to stay with the Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Meanwhile, KL Rahul might make a move to Royal Challengers Bangalore, although talks are still in the early stages.
Despite weekend rumors suggesting that Pant could leave the Delhi Capitals (DC), sources have confirmed to IANS that the wicketkeeper-batter will remain with the franchise. Various media outlets speculated about Pant’s potential departure, even linking him to a transfer to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where his close relationship with legendary captain M.S. Dhoni is well known.
However, sources clarify that Pant is set to be retained by DC, along with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, who have been key players for the team in recent seasons. Notably, this trio also contributed to India’s victory in the Men’s T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29, further solidifying their importance to the franchise.
Rishabh Pant has been with the Delhi Capitals since 2016, when he was picked in the auction on the same day he scored 111 runs off 96 balls for India in the Men’s U19 World Cup quarterfinal against Namibia in Bangladesh. Since then, Pant has become a key player for DC, accumulating 3,284 runs in 111 matches, with an average of 35.31 and an impressive strike rate of 148.93. His performance includes one century and 18 fifties, which has earned him a loyal following among the franchise’s fans.
As the captain for IPL seasons 2021, 2022, and 2024, Pant has also been effective behind the stumps, recording 75 catches and 38 stumpings. Currently, the Delhi Capitals are in search of a new head coach following Ricky Ponting’s departure from the role.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that K.L. Rahul could be transferring to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Sources indicate that discussions are still in the very early stages, and anything could happen in the future.
Rahul has been leading LSG since their first IPL season in 2022. However, in 2024, the team finished seventh in the points table. He previously played for RCB in 2013 and 2016, where he scored 397 runs in 14 innings, including four half-centuries, helping the team finish as runners-up that year.
Sources also revealed to IANS that RCB is interested in adding a local player like Rahul, who can also take on a leadership role in the upcoming season. However, there has been no official announcement regarding player retentions, the salaries of retained players, or whether the Right to Match (RTM) option will be available at the mega auction.
For now, all eyes are on the upcoming meeting between the ten franchise owners and the BCCI, scheduled for the end of this month (likely on July 30). This meeting will set the stage for a busy few months leading up to the retained players’ submission deadline and the trading period.
